Aims of the journal
All students at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Linkoping University, Sweden, which is internationally well-known for its inter-professional training and problem-based learning, are now, writing scientific papers in the field of health sciences as a part of the examination. Together with the Student Union the Faculty supports an electronic journal the "Student Journal of Health Sciences", in which abstracts summarising student papers are published.
For the time being, publication of abstracts in the Student Journal of Health Sciences, is only open and available for students at the Linkoping University in Sweden. Published abstracts are all approved for publishing by the multi-professional scientific advisory board of the journal. The content of the journal covers a broad field within the health sciences. Students in medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, biomedical laboratory research, biomedicine, social caring and public health etc. may all contribute with abstracts.
One aim of this journal is to stimulate the students to write scientific papers and to publish their results during their studies. To have travelled all the way from the initial problem formulation over the design of the study, collection of data and formulation of conclusions to publication in a real journal, is an important and educational experience for any student. Another aim of the journal is promote the scientific standard of the student's papers. A third aim is to make the results and knowledge presented in the student's papers available to the scientific community and to the clinical world. A quick publication of abstracts in the exclusively electronic journal on the Internet, with about 6 issues per year is the basic idea.
The journal has an editorial board with representatives for students and teachers. In addition, there is a scientific advisory board composed of scientifically active faculty members, which function as referees.
