Participating Areas

The following are the current areas of ETAI activity. Research contributions are received, discussed, and refereed within these areas. Each active area has a list of subscribers, who receive information by E-mail, and a number of additional services such as calendar of events, bibliographies, and others. The website containing those services as well as the review discussions can be reached by clicking the area title.
  • Concept Based Knowledge Representation . This area intends to cover any research in conceptual modeling based on knowledge representation. This includes modeling based on formalisms which allow for automated deduction of properties of interest in the defined models.

  • Decision and Reasoning under Uncertainty . This area covers researches on reasoning and decision under uncertainty both on the methodological and on the applicative sides. Significant papers are invited from the whole spectrum of uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence researches.

  • Intelligent User Interfaces. The area of Intelligent User Interfaces focuses on design principles, methodologies and tools that make man-machine communication easier and more effective.

  • Machine Intelligence Workshops. Selected articles from the classical Machine Intelligence Workshop series are now published through the ETAI.

  • Planning and Scheduling. Work in the area of AI Planning and Scheduling ranges from formal and theoretical approaches to very practical and application-driven contributions and with that traditionally covers a variety of border regions of related fields.

  • Reasoning about Actions and Change. Research on Reasoning About Actions and Change investigates formal methods, usually based on formal logic, for characterizing processes in terms of discrete-level state descriptions and events, actions, and activities which are capable of changing the current state.

  • The Semantic Web. This area is targeted at all research efforts aimed at constructing, maintaining and using a 'semantic' or 'knowledge' web that will provide knowledge-based services. It should contain automated reasoners that support the human user in achieving goals via accessing and providing information that is represented in machine-understandable form. The ultimate goal is to create a knowledgeable virtual environment with numerous specialized reasoning services that are able support us in many aspects of our daily life.
