| Abstract: | Picking and packaging is the last step between the company and their customers. Therefore failures in picking cause not only costs and delays by returns of delivered goods, but also loss of image. In order to decrease picking-failures and their costs, quality inspections have to be integrated in the routing of picking and packing. This leads to complex interactions between individual picking and inspections processes. Therefore, quality, costs and cycle time are difficult to estimate. The problem can be solved by using simulation, which has become a powerful tool (Crostack, 2004).
But before a useful simulation can be created, picking-processes have to be defined and analysed. In order to detect weaknesses in these processes and afterwards optimize them, the defined picking-processes have to be combined with a suitable inspection strategy. In the following paper these steps are presented and transferred into a simulation. |
