| Abstract: | This study is about the riots which took place in Paris in November 2005. It aims to define the ideological production in news discourse. In theoretical base, a hegemonic ideology definition was made which is parallel to hegemonic reading in the frame of cultural studies and the meaning process of this definition was also emphasized. Teun Adrian van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis model is used during the study. The ideological production was determined by the analysis of news appeared in Hürriyet and Sabah daily newspapers in Turkey concerning Paris riots. The results of the study demonstrate that there is not enough context information in news; the event could be explained by social, cultural and economic reasons. It is seen that the news are popularized, personalized and reduced to its subject. The results of the study have been expressed by means of “ideological atmosphere” concept. |
